Steeped in history both Aboriginal and European. New South Wales is much more than stunning landscapes and spectacular coastlines.
new south wales
colourful & awe-inspiring
With a multicultural vibe woven into the very fabric of the state, New South Wales does as much for the heart and mind as it does for the eye. Diversity is the name of the game here with the rich tropical rainforests, vast arid outback desert, lush greenery and an almost unbroken line of tempting sandy beaches. The contrasting sights, sounds and smells which greet you at every twist and turn are unrivalled in the world. Alpine skiing, surfing, mountain climbing, trekking, off road driving, fishing, swimming, world class cuisine and award winning wines await you.
in a word
Dividing neatly into four regions New South Wales truly has it all. The narrow coastal strip, which runs between Queensland and Victoria, has spectacular beaches, national parks, inlets and coastal lakes. The coastline stretches to over 1,250 miles. The South region home of the Snowy Mountains offers breathtaking winter skiing and invigorating summer bushwalks. The Great Dividing Range which also runs the length and breadth of the state includes the New England tablelands and the spectacular Blue Mountains, whose blue haze is as a result of the fine mist given off by the eucalyptus trees. The state capital is the majestical Sydney, one of the world's great cities. West of the Great Dividing Range is the farming country of the western slopes and dry plains. Here the state's major rivers meander westward across the plains. Centuries of European history and culture are evident and celebrated throughout the state in many shapes and forms. Go even further back in history and experience the culture derived from the 3,000 plus native Aboriginal tribes that populated the Sydney region. In the summer temperatures can soar well over 40°C in the barren outback of the far west, but the average summer temperature throughout the rest of the state is a pleasant 25°C and rarely falls below 10°C at night.
