The best way to get here is by car and it is approximately 4˝ hours drive from Christchurch. The road is good and the scenery along the way makes the drive worthwhile. There are a huge array of activities on offer from heli-skiing in winter to hiking and fishing in summer. There are some excellent treks taking in both mountain and bushland scenery or take a trip to the glacier where after short hike to the lake experienced guides will take you by boat to the glacier itself. The Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre offers a unique insight into Mount Cook, with a planetarium and 3D theatre. The Alpine Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and offers spectacular views of the Southern Alps.
