MELBOURNE Australia's second largest city and capital of Victoria, Melbourne boasts great festivals and shopping along with a passion for food, wine and fabulous arts. Lying directly on the shores of Port Phillip Bay, Melbourne is a city of style and offers easy access to the many experiences that Victoria has to offer. MELBOURNE SURROUNDS Take a short tram ride from the city centre and you will find yourself in the seaside town of St. Kilda, one of Melbourne's liveliest areas with plenty of coffee shops for people watching. Discover the rolling vineyards of the Yarra Valley and the fine food, wine and chic beachfront towns of the Mornington Peninsula. Alternatively relax in Victoria's Spa capital, Daylesford.
PHILLIP ISLAND Two hours from Melbourne, Phillip Island is home to the world famous fairy penguins who make their nightly pilgrimage up the beach, as well as many other attractions. Visit the Seal Rocks Sea Life Centre and the Koala Conservation Centre, explore the beautiful historic site of Churchill Island, take a cruise to Seal Rocks or follow one of the many walking tracks around the island. THE GREAT OCEAN ROAD The Great Ocean Road is one of the world's most spectacular coastal drives, winding along beside quiet bays, quaint towns and historic shipwreck sites. Dramatic limestone cliffs tower above the ocean, rock stacks, gorges, arches and blowholes combine to create a stunning landscape. THE GRAMPIANS Located in northwest Victoria, the Grampians rise out of undulating farmland. Within the boundaries of the National Park, visitors are struck by the sheer beauty of the magnificent rock formations, waterfalls and panoramic views.
GOLDFIELDS Step back in time and relive the history of the gold rush in central Victoria. From the thrills of striking it rich to the famous Australian rebellion of the Eureka Stockade, people came from all over the world to try their luck. Ballarat is the gateway, where impressive Victorian buildings are a record of how it all began. AUSSIE RULES Aussie rules football otherwise known as `the footy' is almost a religion in Victoria. The rules are a mixture of rugby, Gaelic football and a bit of madness! The Australian Football League Grand Final takes place in Melbourne over the last weekend in September. If you happen to be in town, pick a team, buy a scarf, wave a flag and enjoy the atmosphere.

Geography: Victoria has an amazing diversity of landscape, ranging from the desert of the northwest to the flat lands in the southwest. There are mountains and beaches and some excellent dive sites. The rugged coastline of the Great Ocean Road is simply stunning. Travel Tips: Ski in winter, bushwalk or mountain bike in summer, in some of the high country areas like Mount Hotham or the Grampians. For the real walkers there is the famous 155 mile Great South West Walk. Victoria is a sports and activity mecca. Play golf on some of the finest golf courses in Australia; watch a game of Aussie Rules footy, surf, ski, bike, kayak or all of the above. Get out there and enjoy all Victoria has to offer.
