DAY 1 ARAFURA SEA Collect your rental vehicle and make your way along the Arnhem Highway to Kakadu National Park (approx. 3½ hours). On the way, maybe take a cruise on the Adelaide River Queen to see the famous jumping crocodiles, or visit Fogg Dam Conservation Reserve on the Adelaide River flood plains, a paradise for bird watchers. Stay for two nights at Aurora Kakadu (Standard) or Gagadju Crocodile Holiday Inn (Superior). Visit Ubirr and Nourlangie Rock for some of Australia's richest Aboriginal rock art, and the Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre for a real insight into the park's cultural heritage. This spectacular National Park encompasses much of the Tabletop Range, a wide sandstone plateau mostly surrounded by cliffs, and offering superb swimming holes and waterfalls, plus 40 miles of walking tracks. Travel to Buley Rockhole (when accessible) for a swim in one of the many rock pools and see the amazing giant magnetic termite mounds. Overnight at Lake Bennet Resort (Standard and Superior). Darwin Litchfield National Park Pine Creek Edith River Jabiru Kakadu DAY 5 Depart Litchfield for your drive back to Darwin (approx. 2 hours). Katherine Northern Territory DAY 3 An early start is recommended this morning. Continue to the gold rush town of Pine Creek and then on to Katherine (approx. 3½ hours). Visit Edith Falls and the mysterious Cutta Cutta Caves, hire a canoe on Katherine Gorge and listen in to the world's largest classroom, the School of the Air.
