DAY 1 h Pick up your AVIS car and check into your hotel for
a one night stay. This wonderful city is a blend of European heritage and modern metropolis, set in a natural harbour against a mountain background. Feel a reminder of the past at the Port Arthur Historic Site, Australia's most intact and evocative settlement. Other attractions include Battery Point, the Botanic Gardens and Constitution Dock.
DAY 2 h Drive to Richmond (14 miles) for a one night stay in
DAY 3 h Travel onwards to Coles Bay (106 miles) on the north edge of Freycinet National Park for two nights. Situated against the dramatic backdrop of three pink granite peaks called The Hazards, Coles Bay is a beautiful fishing inlet fringed by deep azure water dotted with boats. It's a great base for exploring the wilderness of the national park with its brilliant blue water, verdant forest and golden beach. DAY 5 h Drive to Launceston (109 miles) for an overnight stay. Admire colonial Victorian architecture, visit Queen Victoria Museum & Art Gallery and marvel at the breathtaking Cataract Gorge outside the city centre. DAY 6 h Drop off your car.

one of Australia's oldest and best-preserved towns. Browse galleries, cafés and shops and visit the Richmond Maze and Hobart Town Model Village. Richmond Gaol is a pristine example of one of the area's early prisons and is home to Australia's oldest Roman Catholic church, St John, and bridge, Richmond Bridge, both of which date back to the early 1800s.
