INTRODUCTION I N D E P E N D E N T T R AV E L see & do MULTI-CENTRES ITINERARIES On p44-53 are samples of our most popular multi-centre holidays that include not only China, but a selection of fabulous beaches in Thailand, Bali and the eclectic cities of Tokyo, Kyoto, Kuala Lumpur, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Bangkok. Most itineraries are available on both a First Class or Deluxe basis and include accommodation, return airport transfers and all internal transportation. We haven't included sightseeing, as we believe on a multi-centre itinerary you should decide what you want to visit and when. Instead, choose the sightseeing `experience' in China that suits you best from the extensive range offered throughout the destination pages. Experiences in other countries in the itinerary are available on request. Remember, our list of multi-centres is just a suggestion, not exhaustive, so if you would like to amend any part of it in any way, or create a completely new itinerary to suit your requirements please contact us for details. TAILORMADE HOTELS, CRUISES, EXPERIENCES & TRANSFERS From p54 onwards you will find our extensive collection of specialist hotels and prebookable `experiences'. Each hotel and experience has been hand-picked to allow you the greatest flexibility when creating your tailormade journey. Simply select your hotel, add applicable transfers and choose your preferred experiences and, with the best available airfare, we'll create your personalised itinerary. For full details of hotels, cruises, experiences and transfers please see: Yangtze Cruises Sanya Beijing & Chengde Xi'an Shanghai Nanjing, Suzhou & Hangzhou Chengdu & Tibet Guilin & Yangshuo Kunming, Lijiang, Dali & Zhongdian Macau Hong Kong Taiwan Japan Malaysia Bali Thailand p54-59 60-65 66-73 74-77 78-85 86-89 90-92 93-95 96-99 100-101 102-105 106-109 110 111 111 112-113 1 2 3 4 5 6 1 Rooftop in the Forbidden City, Beijing 2 Traditionally detailed architecture, Beijing 3 Summer Palace, Beijing 4 Experience inspiring Tibet 5 Southern Chinese landscape, Guilin 6 The Great Wall of China getting around china China is a great country to explore independently, and all the main attractions, as well as the more off-the-beaten-track destinations are now within easy reach by air, road or rail. Together we can arrange your own unique itinerary, linking each stop on your journey by the most comfortable mode, whether your preference is to take it easy or cover a vast stretch of land by the fastest, most convenient method. With all of our independent tours and multi-centres, you will be accompanied to the airport or train station by one of our experienced English speaking guides, ensuring that your transfer from destination to destination is as smooth as possible. China's air network has undergone great expansion in recent years, linking many of the country's fascinating destinations. Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong are major hubs, not only for direct flights with the UK, but also for an innumerable amount of flights to destinations all across China. Xi'an, home of the remarkable Terracotta Warriors, has regular flights to both Beijing and Shanghai and many other destinations including Chongqing and Yichang for Yangtze river cruises, Kunming for Yunnan, Hong Kong and picturesque Guilin in the south. To explore the ethnically rich and scenically beautiful Yunnan, Kunming serves as an excellent starting point with flights from Chendgu, home of the adorable giant pandas, Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong to name but a few. Sanya is well connected with direct flights from Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong. Travelling by rail is one of the most pleasurable ways to view a country, passing towns and villages that are usually off the tourist trail and through countryside that is seldom seen. Not only is it a great way to meet local people but it is also the best way to cover short distances where flying is unavailable. Where possible we only offer soft seats in the upgraded carriages, ensuring your comfort is not compromised. We highly recommend train journeys in and around Hangzhou, Suzhou and Nanjing, all of which are connected by rail to Shanghai. From Beijing take the train up to the imperial city of Chengde, a longer four hours journey, but very rewarding nonetheless. Much of China's road network is also being upgraded and in particular the quality of road journeys in Yunnan has greatly improved over the past few years. Indeed the road trip from Lijiang to Dali is highly recommended, with stops en route at the dramatic Tiger Leaping Gorge and scenic first bend of the Yangtze river. Hangzhou, Suzhou, Nanjing and Shanghai are all connected by road should the train option not appeal. Rest assured, all our road transfers are undertaken in modern airconditioned vehicles with responsible, professional drivers. 43 call 01306 740500 I www.kuoni.co.uk I see your travel agent
