Imagine a 87 square mile desert conservation reserve, framed by the Hajar Mountains and home to dramatic open landscapes and panoramic skies and in its midst, luxury and sumptuous comfort contained within a beautiful resort built in the style of a traditional Bedouin encampment. This is Al Maha Desert Resort & Spa, an idyllic, exclusive oasis. The vastness of the desert dwarfs the simple pale façades of the Bedouin style buildings which contrast dramatically with the detail and extravagant décor of the beautiful interiors, adorned with traditional artifacts and precious antiquities. Dining ranges from local delicacies to Mediterranean menus served in more formal elegant surroundings or intimate outdoor settings with views of the endless dunes. An open-air courtyard encompasses the cool freeform swimming pool bordered with decorative rocks and palms and the poolside retreat with its low cushioned seating and relaxing murmur of whirring wooden fans. Nearby the spa offers therapeutic and beauty treatments using specialist products of date fruits and frankincense oils and includes a unique Rasool therapy treatment room. The fitness centre offers an airconditioned environment and state-of-the-art equipment. Outside in the dry desert, evocative thoughts of fun, fantasy and legend emerge with the chance to experience two included activities per day from archery, falconry, camel safaris, guided nature tours and 4x4 dune driving. Further afield historical and architectural tours in and around the Hajar Mountains are available at extra cost. You could be forgiven, however, for wanting to do nothing more than indulge in the gorgeousness of your Bedouin suite, each very private with its own wooden terrace and chilled infinity pool and wonderful desert views. Inside, each suite is equipped with a sumptuous bed, airconditioning, sitting area, minibar, tea and coffee making facilities, and bathrooms have a spacious walk-in shower, kingsize bath tub, double vanity areas and an adjacent dressing area. There are also two spacious and luxurious Royal suites each with two bedrooms and a huge lounge area. Emirates suites have two large bedrooms, a large temperature controlled swimming pool, spacious lounge with dining facilities and custom-made super kingsize beds.
