Dramatically set on a granite bluff overlooking the Nile and passing feluccas, the Old Cataract opened its doors in 1899. a truly romantic location that comes second to none. Under the Moorish dome of the 1902 restaurant, traditional music is the accompaniment to your dinner. Informal dining is offered at the poolside grill and a relaxed atmosphere in the Terrace, a restaurant with views of the Nile. The hotel has an outdoor heated fresh water swimming pool, complete with sun loungers and sun umbrellas, is the ideal spot to loosen up after a day of sight seeing. Surrounded by the eternally ebbing Nile and flanked on one side by Aswan and the desert on the other, settings do not come any more dramatic than this. Formerly the Elephantine Island Resort the hotel is now managed by the Movenpick group of hotels and is currently closed for refurbishment. It is expected to open in June 2007. The areas under renovations are the swimming pool and restaurant, the all day dining room, lobby, lounge bar, tower bar and part of the guest rooms. Guests will be able to dine in the La Perla restaurant, open 24-hours for buffet breakfast, lunch, dinner and a la carte menus. The lounge bar located next to the restaurant will open daily from 9am to 2am. During the day, refreshments and snacks are offered in the stunning gardens that overlook the west bank and Kitchener Island. All the rooms are expected to be beautifully furnished with airconditioning, telephone, television, minibar and a terrace with garden views or first floor balcony overlooking the Nile.
