CAMBODIA REGIONAL MAP The most famous of the country's ancient sites is the temple complex of Angkor. This awe inspiring construction is quite rightly touted as one of the `Seven Wonders of the World'. By travelling further afield you can enjoy lazy sunkissed beaches in Sihanoukville, sleepy towns and spectacular national parks. The evocatively named capital Phnom Penh is a beautiful city full to the brim with charmingly dilapidated colonial heritage. There is also a vibrant riverside promenade and a whole selection of cafés and restaurants. It is important to remember that with developing countries the tourism infrastructure is not as refined as in other places in the region. Hotel standards vary enormously and transport can be subject to delays and changes.

ANGKOR One of the most incredible and awe inspiring ancient sites in southeast Asia, if not the world. Hidden deep in the jungle for many years this remarkable temple complex is just a short distance from Siem Reap. The best times of day to visit are either late afternoon or early in the morning to avoid the midday heat with sunrise or sunset being particular favourites. Although it is possible to travel to Angkor independently an informative guide is invaluable. SIEM REAP Lying in the north west of Cambodia, Siem Reap is quite rightly best known for being the gateway to Angkor. This once sleepy town has benefited from its proximity to the ancient sites and offers a good selection of shops and restaurants. PHNOM PENH This enigmatic capital city remains small in comparison to its bordering countries however retains a charm of colonial influence, architecture and cultural pride. 72 Visit the many markets, see temples and royal palaces and enjoy the riverside ambience as you sit al fresco at dusk on the banks of the mighty Mekong. SIHANOUKVILLE This is the most popular beach location in the country and should be considered as an option for a relaxing break at the end of a touring holiday. Popular with locals and visitors alike who travel to here for lazy weekends on the sun kissed shores. There are a number of offshore islands to visit for the day as well as the Ream National Park. KEP A small town of fading colonial architecture just east of Sihanoukville. With no real beach to boast of, here the emphasis is on relaxing by your pool by day, and in the evening sampling Kep's raison d'être magnificent seafood. Sample freshly caught crab, prawns and squid at a local stall, or dine in more style at one of the guesthouse restaurants.
