DAY 1
Depart Phnom Penh this morning by car on your journey northeast to the province of Ratanakiri. Arrive late afternoon in Banlung, the provincial capital, nicknamed the red city due to its omnipresent red laterite. This small town offers an ideal base to explore this unique and rewarding province. En route we stop at a rubber plantation close to the village of Choup, then take lunch at a local restaurant at Snuol. Continue on to Kratie, a sleepy town on the banks of the Mekong River dotted with colonial French and traditional Khmer architecture.
