On arrival transfer to the first class Sunway hotel (p86) or the deluxe Raffles Le Royal (p86) for your next two nights. Explore the city on our prebookable City Tour which takes you to the splendid Wat Phnom, Royal Palace, Wat Ounalom, National Museum, Russian Market and the notorious Tuol Sleng detention centre, a painful reminder of the crimes committed by the Khmer Rouge government in the 1970s. DAY 1 Fly Thai Airways overnight to Bangkok, connecting onwards with Bangkok Airways to Luang Prabang for three nights at the first class Three Nagas (p98) or deluxe La Residence (p99). Set on the banks of the Mekong River, Luang Prabang was formerly the capital of Laos and its many ornate temples have enchanted visitors and led to its status as a World Heritage listed site. DAY 1 Fly British Airways overnight to Bangkok, connecting onwards with Bangkok Airways to Siem Reap. On arrival you will be met and transferred to the first class Sokha Angkor Hotel (p82) or the deluxe Sofitel Royal Angkor (p84) for three nights. As well as the temples of Angkor there is much more to discover in the area and we recommend our half day tour visiting Tonle Sap lake. The tour offers an insight into traditional life, visiting small fishing villages built on stilts over the lake. There is also the opportunity to spot the incredible array of waterfowl and other birdlife that inhabit the area's wetlands. DAY 10 Transfer by road (approximately three hours) for four nights at the coastal resorts of Sihanoukville or Kep. Sihanoukville offers quiet beaches and a relaxed ambience, staying at the first class Sokha Beach Resort (p89). The area around Kep is still wonderfully underdeveloped, it was here that many of the French colonialists built beachside villas and the area is just starting to awaken to international tourism. Stay at the medium class Champey Inn (p88). DAY 5 Fly Siem Reap Airways to Siem Reap (from April to October on Lao Airlines via Vientiane). On arrival transfer to the first class Sokha Angkor Hotel (p82) or the deluxe Sofitel Royal Angkor (p84) for three nights.
