DAY 9
Fly south with Vietnam Airlines to Ho Chi Minh City for three nights at the first class Windsor Plaza (p48) or the deluxe Sheraton Saigon (p50). This vibrant city has emerged as the commercial capital of Vietnam and offers a mix of cafes, shops markets and sights. While here, we recommend visiting the nearby Cu Chi Tunnels, an enlightening prebookable tour offering an insight into the intense hardship and resilience of the Vietnamese during the Vietnam War.
DAY 1
Fly from Heathrow via Hong Kong to Hanoi with Cathay Pacific, arriving in the morning the next day. You will be met and transferred for three nights to either the first class Sunway hotel (p68) or deluxe Sheraton Hanoi (p70). This elegant city retains a distinctive charm with its French colonial architecture and tree lined boulevards. Perhaps prebook our Hanoi City Tour, visiting the imposing granite mausoleum of Ho Chi Minh, the One Pillar Pagoda and the Temple of Literature.
DAY 12
Depart Ho Chi Minh City for three nights relaxation at either Nha Trang or Phan Thiet: NHA TRANG Approximately one hour's flight north of Ho Chi Minh City with Vietnam Airlines lies the beach resort of Nha Trang. Stay at either the first class Sunrise Beach Resort (p56) or deluxe Ana Mandara (p57). PHAN THIET Approximately three hours by road north of Ho Chi Minh City, the relaxing beaches of Phan Thiet offer an excellent opportunity to unwind after the bustle of the city. Stay at the first class Blue Ocean Resort (p52) or superior first class Novotel Ocean Dunes (p53).
DAY 5
Fly south with Vietnam Airlines to the ancient imperial city of Hue for two nights at the first class Saigon Morin (p61) or the deluxe La Residence (p60). Sitting on the banks of the Perfume River the city can easily be explored on our prebookable Hue City Tour, which includes a river cruise, a visit to the Thien Mu Pagoda, the lively Dong Ba market and the ornate Imperial Citadel, home to the Nguyen Dynasty.
DAY 7
Transfer by road to the small town of Hoi An and stay two nights at the superior first class Golden Sand Resort (p62) or deluxe Nam Hai (p63). You may decide to relax on the beautiful stretches of beach overlooking the South China Sea or take time to explore this charming town on our prebookable City Tour.
DAY 15
Return flight or drive back to Ho Chi Minh City before your overnight flight via Hong Kong with Cathay Pacific back to Heathrow.
