An inviting mixture of salubrious alpine atmosphere of quaint lakeside villages, combined with natural beauty and breathtaking scenery.
the lakes
memorable & intoxicating
Whispering the words `Italian lakes' evokes a reminder of romance and beauty, artists sketching luxuriant scenery, and snow capped peaks, forming a backdrop to verdant slopes merging with glistening blue waters. Imagine pretty villages and bustling little towns swathed with a thousand varieties of azaleas, rhododendrons and camellias spilling over the banks, cypress shaded villas and imperial hotels, dotted along the lakeside.
in a word
ART & HISTORY Some of the most artistic and architectural cities of Italy are close enough to plan daily excursions. A wealth of art and historical sights can be found in Milan or Verona. Dominating the centre of Milan is the Duomo (Cathedral), a forest of statues and spires celebrated as one of the wonders of northern Italy. See Isolabella, many marvelled at the sheer audacity of its art creation. The Piazza Vecchia in Bergamo is worth a visit, although overshadowed by Tuscany's Renaissance, Bergamo is one of the finest medieval towns in the country. Santa Caterina del Sasso, clinging to a sheer rock face above the waters of Lake Maggiore, is one of the most picturesque churches in Italy. 122 Enjoy Verona's famous Roman Arena and San Giorgio in Braida, with its lovely domed renaissance church housing beautiful frescoes by Veronese and Tintoretto. The marble cathedral of Santa Maria Maggiore can be found in Como. Villa Carlotta on Lake Como houses fantastic artistic treasures, among which are Cupid and Venus by Antonio Canova. Lake Orta's green waters run still and quiet, and in the centre they hold a magical isle, illuminated on summer nights like a golden fairytale castle. A mere seven miles long, Orta is a lake very easy to explore. Nietzsche, who never fell in love, did so on its soft green shores. Lake Iseo is the fifth lake in size but the first in charm, well endowed with what it takes to achieve a fantastic holiday.
