ART & HISTORY Within easy reach of Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast you may spend a whole day visiting the Roman town destroyed by Vesuvius, Pompeii, probably the largest archeological site in the world. The volcanic eruption AD 79 froze the way of life in Pompeii as it stood at the time. To complete the ensemble, visit the Museo Archeologico Nazionale in Naples housing one of the world's most important collections of the Roman era. Whilst in Naples visit Toledo and enter the sumptuous Baroque church St Gregorio Armeno, its cloister is a quiet haven in the heart of the city. Located in the Capodimonte Park, the National Museum houses a marvellous collection of paintings and sculptures, including the famous 18th Century porcelain figurines. Further south along the coast, visit the three glorious Greek Temples of Paestum. Explore Italy's most spectacular coastline the Amalfi Coast.
