Visit a range of both peaceful villages and lively towns sitting around the lake's edge, including the popular Sirmione or the picturesque Riva in the shadow of Monte Rocchetta and Monte Brione. DAY 5 h Leaving one lake behind, travel on to Baveno Explore the historic Parrocchiale of St. Gervasio and St. Protaso with its Romanesque bell tower and witness the lavish 19th century villas. Lake Maggiore is home to the three enchanting Borromean Islands and is often called the most scenic of the Italian lakes. It is dotted with towns such as Stresa, which boasts beautiful gardens and villas, and Pallanza with its historic centre lined with ancient streets and period buildings. DAY 8 h Leave Baveno (approx. 1 hour) and travel to Milan's Malpensa Airport. Fly British Airways to Gatwick. (approx. 2½ hours) on the shore of Lake Maggiore.
