DAY 2
Today pick up your car downtown and head west to Banff in the Rockies, where you will spend the next four nights at the Buffalo Mountain Lodge, a charming complex on the slopes of Tunnel Mountain. We have included a ride on the Banff Gondola, a breathtaking ascent to the pinnacle of Sulphur Mountain for aweinspiring panoramas. Once at the summit you may choose to follow one of the interpretative hiking trails that lead along the ridge of the mountain.
DAY 1
Fly with British Airways from Heathrow to Calgary arriving later the same day. Transfer to the centrally located Delta Bow Valley Hotel for an overnight stay. 22
The Bow Valley is full of spectacular sights including the magnificent Moraine Lake and picturesque Lake Louise, the perfect spot for a picnic. We recommend the drive to Jasper along the Icefields Parkway, travel past spectacular glaciers, cascading waterfalls, turquoise lakes and an aweinspiring mountain wilderness. Stop at the Columbia Icefields and travel across the Athabasca Glacier aboard the famous Ice Explorer. There are many canyons, hiking and biking trails in the Banff area as well as a Grizzly Bear refuge and the National History Museum. See p21 for other pre-bookable experiences including whitewater rafting and horseriding.
