The imposing mountainscape of Arosa with its many peaks is a perfect and extensive hiking region during the summer. Known locally as Alpen Arean, the pretty town of Flims is situated on a sunny terrace overlooking the wildly romantic Rhine valley.
INFORMATION Airport: Zurich. Local Transport: A multitude of bus and train routes serve the region, most are free or discounted when purchasing a Swiss rail pass. Local taxis also provide convenience. Fly Luggage: Operates to Arosa. Operates to Flims only, not available back to airport. Transfers: 2nd Class rail transfers are included. 1st Class rail travel is available for a supplement of £16. Transfer time to Arosa is 3 hours, Flims 2¼ hours. Flims is reached by bus from Arosa. Arosa is located at the end of the romantic Schanfigg Valley, far away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. FOOD & DRINK Both Arosa and Flims have a variety of both traditional and stylish restaurants and bars. If self catering is more your style then there are plenty or barbecue spots available along the miles of hiking tracks. CULTURAL HIGHLIGHTS In July, Flims hosts its music festival with its eclectic mix of music and venues. Arosa is also host to `Open Air', the highest open-air opera festival in the Alps with performances on the forest stage (July/August). WALKING The hiking region of Arosa boasts over 200 kilometres of varied walking and hiking trails. The 9 mile long ten-lake-hike, for example, takes you past one crystal clear lake after another. Flims boasts 155 miles of hiking trails, including several theme trails that take you past such natural wonders as the Flimserstein or Martinsloch and thanks to its dense network of restaurants, your next meal will never be very far away either.
