INFORMATION Airport: Zürich. Local Transport: Regular trains run down to Lauterbrunnen valley and Interlaken. Cable cars and gondolas take you high up the mountains. Transfer time is approx. 3¼ hours from Zürich and 4 hours from Geneva. The largest mountain resort in the Bernese Oberland, Grindelwald has a prime, central location with easy access by rail, cable car and gondola to both sides of the valley, encompassing a lion's share of the best paths in the Jungfrau region. The permanently snow­ capped peaks of the Jungfrau and the awesome `north face' of the Eiger with its dramatic glaciers in full view, are the reason why Grindelwald has become so famous all over the world. There are plenty of cafés, restaurants and a good variety of shops. In high season there is a weekly village festival for all to enjoy.
