A pretty, unspoilt alpine village offering a relaxing, peaceful summer retreat with glorious scenery.

Adelboden is less well known than the other Jungfrau region villages but is an equally beautiful little village at 4,800 feet, on the side of a south-facing valley. This lovely resort has traditional wooden chalets grouped around the main street, lined with charming shops, cafes and a 15th Century church. A real gem!
INFORMATION Airport: Zürich or Geneva. Local Transport: Adelboden attractions are all accessible by foot. A wide variety of mountain cable cars leads you through the AdelbodenFrutigen holiday region. Fly Luggage: Operates to Adelboden. Transfers: 2nd class rail transfers included. 1st class rail travel is available for a supplement of £16. Transfers are by rail and post bus. The bus station is in the centre of Adelboden. Transfer time from Geneva is 3¾ hours and 3 hours from Zürich. There are over 186 miles of perfect hiking, walking and mountain trails and a wide choice of cycle and mountain bike routes for unforgettable discoveries amongst the nature and diverse landscape. Sport and leisure enthusiasts can benefit from the free visitors card which gives free entry to the open-air public swimming pool, indoor ice-rink, tennis courts and regular activity programme for adults and children. FOOD & DRINK There are mountain restaurants, cafes, bars, pubs, tea rooms, gourmet restaurants and pizzerias offering something to suit all tastes. Panoramic views, rustic and cosy atmospheres, exemplary hospitality, traditional Swiss specialities and sun terraces await you. CULTURAL HIGHLIGHTS Visit the local museum, the village church, traditional mountain cheese-maker and a wood carving workshop. WALKING The village offers miles of attractive walks for all standards from gentle low-lying tracks to high alpine hiking and lies over the mountains from Kandersteg to the east and Lenk to the west. There are eight diverse Nordic walking trails in the Adelboden-Fruitigen region plus there is the Floral Mountain trail. This trail gives a fascinating and informative insight into Adelboden's mountain flora.

The natural formations hidden in the region that cannot go undiscovered include the 2,000 feet high Engstligen waterfalls, which can be reached by foot from Adelboden in one and a half hours or by bus. Choleren Gorge, the 330 feet long rock gorge is accessible via a system of walkways and steps. Take a picnic and sit beside the crystal clear waters of Silleren lake, which is reached by cable car. INTERLAKEN The largest of the Bernese Oberland resorts, can be reached by bus and train in one and a half hours and offers superb shopping and is nestled between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz with lakeside beaches and steamers. ADVENTURE PARK Feel the adrenaline rush as you abseil from a bridge or glide across the river on a zip wire. LAMA TREKKING This popular experience gets you close to these gentle animals, walking them through the mountains and meadows.
