INFORMATION Airport: Zürich and Geneva. Local Transport: A regular bus service runs between Interlaken Ost and West. The public buses in Interlaken are free for all guests. Regular train services run from Interlaken Ost to the many pretty resorts of the Bernese Oberland and beyond. Regular steamers travel on Lake Thun and Brienz. Fly Luggage: Operates to Interlaken. Transfers: 2nd class rail transfers included. 1st class rail travel is available for a supplement of £16. Transfer time is 2½ hours from Zürich and 3 hours from Geneva.

Between the glistening waters of Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, Interlaken enjoys a magnificent setting on the banks of the River Aare with the snow-capped mountains of the Eiger and Jungfrau offering a superb backdrop. The main promenade the `Höheweg' is lined with huge open meadows and there are many shops, tearooms and attractive cafés along the promenade. Interlaken Ost train station is the gateway to the fantastic Alpine world of 12,000 feet peaks. Many excursions can be found in every direction by lake steamers, cog railways, chair lifts, car or bicycle. From lakeside to the bustling centre, from gentle walks to paragliding, Interlaken really offers something for everyone.

FOOD & DRINK The gastronomic delights of Interlaken are endless. Whether it is a country inn or a cosy bistro, haute cuisine or local specialities that you desire, you will find a suitable venue. CULTURAL HIGHLIGHTS Learn more about the history, customs, building styles and life in general by joining one of the various guided village walks or horse drawn carriage rides around the town. There are several museums to explore including the Jungfrau Region Museum of Tourism, which traces the history of travel and tourism to the Jungfrau Region. WALKING There are countless miles of marked mountain and walking trails easily accessible from the town. Hike through snowy peaks, stroll by the lakes or through green meadows. There are various themed paths that take between one and two hours including a Castle Path and a Rail and Nature trail.
