The sparkling lakes surrounding Interlaken offer pretty lakeside resorts and serene villages as a quieter alternative for your holiday. Lake steamers stop close to our featured hotels and are a delightful way to explore the area. Any number of excursions are available from our chosen resorts of Bönigen, Wilderswil, Gunten and Meringen.
INFORMATION Airport: Zürich. Local Transport: A wide network of regular train services run from Interlaken Ost to the rest of the Bernese Oberland. Regular steamers on Lake Thun and Brienz by the famed Lake Thun steamer service. Fly Luggage: Operates to Meiringen. For Bonigen, Gunten and Wilderswil we have included collection and delivery of your luggage from Interlaken station to/from your hotel. Transfers: 2nd Class rail transfers included to Interlaken, Meiringen and Wilderswil. 1st Class rail travel is available for a supplement of £16. A short bus ride from Interlaken will take you to Bonigen, Gunten and Thun. Transfer time to Meiringen is 2½ hours, Wilderswil 2¾ hours, Bonigen and Thun 3 hours and Gunten 2½ hours. The Lake Region has magnificent possibilities for hiking and mountain biking in wooded mountains, green meadows, around lakes and through vineyards. With the ever-changing picturesque scenery from quaint villages to Alpine Flower Gardens, from spectacular waterfalls to castles, each of our featured resorts boast enchanting attractions, a peaceful country atmosphere and all are within easy reach of Interlaken, the main gateway to the mountain world of the Bernese Oberland.

MEIRINGEN A lovely little town, ideal for a quiet relaxing holiday in a less explored corner of the Bernese Oberland. Just 30 minutes by train to Interlaken. In a beautiful setting of green meadows on a wide flat valley floor (perfect for the less energetic walkers) and flanked by impressive Alpine scenery best known for its association with Sherlock Holmes and the Reichenbach Waterfalls. WILDERSWIL One of the most charming small villages we've seen, ten minutes by bus or train from Interlaken. Full of every style of Swiss chalet and window boxes overflowing with geraniums and petunias. At 1,800 feet this unhurried casual resort is a perfect starting point for gentle walks on the lower mountain slopes with fabulous views to the lakes, Interlaken and of course the Eiger and Jungfrau. Arguably one of Switzerland's most beautiful walking regions with unforgettable views of the mountains and Thun and Brienz Lakes. BONIGEN & GUNTEN These picturesque and tranquil lakeside resorts offer a quieter alternative to Interlaken with all the amenities close by. Lake steamers stop close to our featured hotels, and are a delightful way to explore the area. Bonigen is located on beautiful Lake Brienz. Enjoy swimming in the openair heated pool. Gunten is located on the sunny southfacing side of Lake Thun. THUN The tranquil, old medieval town of Thun has a stunning lakeside setting with glorious views, its proud castle, fascinating museum, excellent shopping and boulevard cafés with all the attractions of the Jungfrau nearby. The old town sector is particularly attractive with its arcaded Town Hall square castle, flowered terraces and broad overhanging roofs.
