Magical, mountainous and superbly natural mahé striking & varied A fusion of lush vegetation, Creole culture and snow-like beaches create a diversity and beauty unique to Mahé the main island in the Seychelles. Offering more activities and choices than the smaller islands, Mahé is the most easily accessible of the islands, with a direct flight from London, but also offering a feeling of remote tranquillity for those seeking peaceful relaxation. in a word Mahé is the largest island in the Seychelles and home to the sleepy capital city of Victoria, as well as around 70,000 inhabitants. The island is 17 miles long, just five miles wide yet boasts 68 stunning beaches, which hem a mountainous creation of beauty rising from crystal waters. Rainforest clad mountains stretch up from the pure white sands and are home to a variety of bird species, while banana and breadfruit trees grow at the sides of the roads. Plantations of vanilla tea, cinnamon, coconut and mangroves exude scents and sights to indulge your senses during nature walks on the island. In general the south is the more rural and `wilder' end of the island and home to some spectacular beaches. Victoria is located in the north east and is a good spot for buying local crafts, while the tourist oriented village of Beau Vallon on the north coast boasts a stunning beach with calm waters ideal for watersports. There is an emphasis on art in the Seychelles and Mahé is home to an abundance of painters with galleries you may wish to visit. Mahé is ideal as a single island experience, or as a prequel to a smaller island retreat. 10
