INTRODUCTION USA & CANADA see & do ASPEN, USA In 1892 Aspen was a booming silver mining town. The first lift was installed just after the Second World War. The Aspen area boasts lots of slopes for different abilities which are split over four separate mountains. Aspen Mountain sits directly above the old town ideal for intermediate skiers. Aspen Highlands ridge has easy intermediate slopes and steep blacks. Buttermilk is the least challenging and offers a piece of respite. Après ski is renowned for its glitz and celebrity haunts. BEAVER CREEK, USA An exclusive resort that has been purpose built. Escalators transport you to the main lifts and a moving walkway will whisk you from the main Centennial lift to the Strawberry Park express. The slopes are gentle, sweeping and perfectly groomed. Central plaza with its winter wonderland ice rink is snow clear and the focal point of the evening activities. Après ski is low key. However there are exceptional restaurants to dine in. VAIL, USA Vail has one of the largest areas of slopes in the USA. Blue Sky Basin, when it opened, changed the whole concept of skiing in Vail, although not steep it has a distinctly back country feel and can be enjoyed by all levels of skiers. The village of Vail is lively and has a distinctly Tirolean feel in the old town. Other parts of the village have a more upbeat modern atmosphere, which goes with the attractive bars and restaurants that are frequented for après ski. WHISTLER, CANADA Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains have acquired a formidable reputation amongst intermediate and expert skiers and boarders. Creekside is the oldest part of Whistler and started as a small local ski village with ramshackle buildings and a couple of eating houses. Today Whistler Village, which was developed in the 1970s, is a lively, cosmopolitan resort that sits nestled between the Whistler and Blackcomb mountains. There is an excellent range of restaurants and bars and superb shopping, which combined with the fantastic skiing makes it one of North America's best resorts. BANFF, CANADA Banff in the Canadian Rockies, is home to a large national park so wildlife can be spotted in the town and amongst the forests. Sunshine Village sits on the Continental Divide and has a fantastic snow record. Nearby Lake Louise also offers some spectacular slopes. The town is comprised of wooden clad low rise housing, many sport & souvenir shops as well as tempting restaurants and some lively bars. TREMBLANT, CANADA One of the most easily accessible North American resorts. The culture of Canada's French speaking province, Quebec is alive in this vibrant, purpose built resort. The town is made up of a colourful array of boutiques and restaurants. Tremblant has its own dedicated beginner's area on the South Side of the mountain. There is plenty of advanced and intermediate terrain, which is well groomed, and a haven for boarders. Tremblant has all the pleasures of the mountain, but it is also a uniquely charming pedestrian-only village. 1 Mountain scenery of Aspen 2 Off-piste boarding around Beaver Creek 3 Superb powder snow of Sunshine Village, Banff 4 Sophisticated Aspen 5 Well groomed slopes of Vail 6 In search of new powder in Whistler 1 2 3 4 5 6 USA & CANADA REGIONAL MAP BRITISH COLUMBIA INFORMATION Time Difference: USA: Colorado:-7 hours, Canada: Banff: -7 hours, Whistler: -8 hours, Tremblant: -5 hours Flight Time: Denver: 9½ hours, Calgary: 9 hours, Vancouver: 9½ hours, Montreal: 7½ hours Currency: USA: US Dollars; Canada: Canadian dollars Voltage: 110 Volts Tipping: Tipping is mandatory in the USA and Canada.
