TRANSFERS
Transfers between airport and resort unless specified otherwise are by speedboat. Where speedboats, large boats or seaplanes are used it may occasionally be necessary to transfer to a local boat called dhonis to allow entry and exit from the resort or airport. As this will take place at sea it is recommended that sensible shoes be worn during transfers. In cases of bad weather or if flights arrive at night or depart very early in the morning, it may be necessary to overnight at the Hulule Island Hotel at the airport, or at a resort nearby at appropriate cost. Timings given in each resort description may vary substantially with sea conditions. During unsettled weather (particularly May to July) sea conditions may on occasion be rough, especially between atolls. If you are not sure of your sea legs, we suggest you choose an island where seaplane transfers are available.
NB The change in seasons, wind direction and tides in the Maldives can cause the island shape and beach width on occasion to change. It may therefore be necessary, for affected islands to use sandbags on the beach to minimise the effect of such seasonal beach erosion.
