DAY 6 Arise early to view sunrise behind a perfectly
Arrive the following day and spend three nights in a Deluxe View room at the Banyan Tree hotel (see p59). Take time to explore this magical and diverse city. Perhaps enjoy a private tour of the Grand Palace or pre-book a tour of the oating market. DAY 5 Fly direct with Bangkok Airways to Siem Reap, gateway to the fabled temples of Angkor and transfer to the central Hotel de la Paix for two nights in a Deluxe gardenview room (p85). All sightseeing throughout your two days in Siem Reap has been included with an English speaking guide for your convenience. Your day of discovery begins at the recently opened Angkor National Museum o ering a valuable insight into the history of the temples. Later journey to Angkor, the greatest masterpiece of Khmer architecture and a remarkable legacy of a kingdom that once ruled vast swathes of Indochina over a thousand years ago. The moated city of Angkor Thom, the last capital of the Angkorian Empire, showcases the subdues faces of the Bayon and the intricate carvings that adorn the Elephant and Leper King Terraces. Wander also the Royal Enclosure and survey the remarkable architecture that surrounds from atop the sandstone Phimeanakas temple. Return to your hotel for an evening at leisure or perhaps enjoy a pre-bookable private dinner in a traditional Khmer village house.
