DAY 1 British Airways ight from Heathrow to Beijing and
transfer to the Peninsula Hotel (p77) for three nights in a Grand deluxe room. Dine in the evening at a restaurant renowned for its speciality Peking Duck dinner. DAY 3 A captivating day includes Tian'anmen Square, the enchanting Forbidden City and the gardens and pavilions of the Summer Palace. Later enjoy an optional tour of the ancient hutong' district of Beijing by rickshaw. DAY 4 Depart for an inspiring day at the mighty Great Wall, with plenty of time to walk along its ramparts and absorb the breathtaking views. Closeby is the award-winning Commune by the Great Wall, where lunch is served overlooking a remote section of the Great Wall. (Overnight stays available, please contact us for details). Return to Beijing via the Sacred Way with the evening at leisure. DAY 5 Arise early to witness T'ai Chi at the beautiful Temple of Heaven, China's largest altar complex, before ying with Air China to Xi'an for two nights in a Luxury club room at the Sotel Renmin Square (p78). The afternoon is at your
leisure before dinner at an acclaimed dumpling and noodle restaurant. DAY 6 An unforgettable day that includes the awe-inspiring Terracotta Warriors, ancient city wall, Muslim Quarter and the Small Wild Goose Pagoda. Optional evening at the Tang Dynasty show. DAY 7 En route to the airport visit the miniature Warriors at the Han Yang Tombs then y onwards with Air China to Shanghai or with Hainan Airlines to Chongqing for those taking a downstream Yangtze Cruise (p78). Otherwise, continue to the Pudong Shangri-La (p79) by Maglev Train for three nights in an Executive room. Later experience the amazing panoramic views of Shanghai from atop the 1,400 feet high Jin Mao tower, where dinner will be enjoyed at the Grand Hyatt. DAY 8 Begin your discovery of Shanghai's long and colourful history wandering the classical Yu Garden and nearby Old Town, then visit the cultural Shanghai Museum. Conclude your day with a gentle stroll along the Bund, Shanghai's riverside collection of grand colonial architecture. DAY 9 Enjoy a day at leisure perhaps browsing the many boutiques of the upmarket French Concession area or the renovated Xintiandi shopping district. DAY 10 Transfer to the airport for your morning British Airways ight to Heathrow arriving later the same day or extend your stay in Hong Kong or on the pristine beaches of Sanya. Your holiday includes: Breakfast on Day 3 to Day 10, lunch on Day 3, 4 and 6, dinner on Day 2, 5 and 7.
