Set in an enviable location overlooking the Acropolis, Parliament Buildings and National Gardens and within walking distance of fashionable Kolonaki Square, is Hotel Grande Bretagne, an architecturally majestic hotel of palatial style which welcomed its first guests in 1874. A former private residence of a wealthy Greek, this is Athens' most famous hotel and has long played a part in its history. The Grande Bretagne has been showered with awards and prides itself on providing impeccable service that combines the best of Greek hospitality with international standards of excellence. For a dining experience, it is hard to beat the GB Roof Garden open May to October with its rooftop views of Athens. The GB Corner offers lunch and dinner and is a popular hotspot for locals and guests. The Winter Garden is open all day, with dinner being accompanied by piano music. Alexander's, with its behind-the-bar 18th Century tapestry of Alexander the Great, offers premium brand cognacs and brandies whilst the rooftop pool and bar and the Atrium at the spa offer alternative refreshment stops. The GB Spa has a fully equipped fitness centre and offers treatments using predominately E'SPA products.
