Our suggested self drive holidays in Italy will leisurely transport you through some of the country's most beautiful landscapes. Lombardia situated in the north is home to Italy's picturesque lakes with many pretty villages to explore. Lake Como is one of the most prestigious lakes of the region which has captivated numerous artists and writers to build their elegant villas overlooking the silent shores. Unspoilt towns and villages are scattered round the lake; visit the charming port of Lenno, the unspoilt Bellagio, or Menaggio which links easily across to the smaller Lake Lugano. Tuscany is located in central Italy and famed for its wonderful wines, with its rich reds amongst some of the world's best. The rolling green countryside and historical towns make it a delight to gently traverse across this region, a picture postcard landscape brimming with unspoilt gems. Explore the artistic capital of Florence, the medieval village of San Gimignano with its distinctive skyline set in the Tuscan hills, the impressive Siena, an ancient walled city, and of course Pisa and her world famous leaning tower. Our Italy fly-drive holidays include British Airways flights from Heathrow to Milan or Gatwick to Pisa, accommodation as detailed and car hire (Volkswagen Golf or similar).
TUSCANY FLY DRIVE
6 NIGHTS Fly directly to Pisa, pick up your hire car and drive towards Florence to the Villa San Michele (Superior room p36) located in Fiesole only minutes from the city. Relax here for the next two nights. Heading south of Florence drive on to Chianti and the pretty village of Tavarnelle Val Di Pesa to the Castello del Nero (Executive double room p23) for a further two nights. The final two nights of your break are at the stunning Grand Hotel Continental (Classic room, p24) in ancient Siena. For your return flight drive to Pisa airport and drop off your hire car.
MILAN & LAKE COMO
7 NIGHTS Fly to Milan's Malpensa airport where you will collect your AVIS car, then drive to Milan and the Four Seasons (Deluxe room p35) hotel for two nights in the fashion capital. After this short city break continue at your leisure to the beautiful Lake Como and the village of Cernobbio. Close to the village and set in its own wooded parkland is the Villa d'Este (Double superior room p21) where you will spend the following five nights. For your return journey drive to Milan Malpensa airport to drop off your car and take your return flight to Heathrow.
