The popular deluxe Sandy Lane enjoys a definite air of exclusivity, popular with the rich, the famous and the discerning traveller. Instantly recognisable for extravagance and smiling service, set on the gleaming white sands of Barbados' west coast against a backdrop of the bluest of waters, it is acknowledged as one of the very best hotels in the world. Set in spacious grounds on the white sands of stunning St. James beach on the west coast, approximately 45 minutes drive from the airport. Built from local coral stone, Sandy Lane welcomed its first guests in 1961. Redevelopment in recent years has preserved and enhanced this truly gracious resort. An impressive sweeping staircase leads to the terrace and restaurant which offers à la carte dining by the seafront. Informal dining, including barbecues and buffets, is served in the beachfront restaurant. Other options include a café and Country Club which overlooks the golf course. Enjoy a swim in the pool or try the complimentary windsurfing, snorkelling, or hobie-cat sailing from the beach (motorised watersports including waterskiing and jet skis are available at an additional cost). There is day and night time play on the nine floodlit tennis courts whilst the two 18-hole championship golf courses offer challenging play and wonderful views. The original 9-hole course also remains, (golf packages may be prebooked for stays in June and September, please call for details). The 47,000 square foot spa, fronted by a spectacular waterfall which cascades into the large free form swimming pool is quite magnificent. Each individual treatment room has a bathroom with changing facilities and a private garden, whilst some also have an outdoor hydrotherapy pool. The spa encompasses a swimming pool, relaxation room, impressive fitness centre, a John Frieda hairdresser and the Spa Café. A fully supervised children's club for ages 3-12 years offers arts and craft activities as well as drama, sports and games. The Den, for teenagers, provides a variety of entertainment including Playstations, computers and a juke box. Nanny services are available for children under 3 years. All 112 rooms and suites are impeccably furnished with careful thought being given to every convenience and comfort. All are airconditioned and have a ceiling fan, telephone, plasma screen television, DVD/CD player, oversized marble bathroom with bath and separate shower, large terrace or balcony and stocked bar. Orchid rooms (ORC): overlook the tropical gardens. Ocean rooms (OV): have sea views. Luxury ocean rooms (LOV): as above but more spacious. One bedroom and two bedroom suites, Penthouse suites and a Villa sleeping up to14 people are available with prices on request. Minimum stay: 14 nights Dec 22. Hotel is closed Jan 01-03, Mar 31-Apr 10 and Dec17-31.
