I Day 2 Wed Arrive Singapore and transfer to the Furama Citycentre (SUP) see p175. I Day 3 Thu Journey north across the 2½ mile long causeway which connects Singapore to the Malaysian mainland where you will pass miles of lush rubber and palm oil plantations before arriving in Malacca this afternoon. After lunch, tour this quaint old port steeped in colourful history. Overnight Malacca (162 miles). L. I Day 4 Fri to Day 5 Sat Drive inland to Kuala Lumpur and tour the main sights, the National Mosque, National Monument and King's Palace. Also visit the Batu Caves whose caverns house a Hindu Shrine and witness the creation of handicrafts. Enjoy two nights in Kuala Lumpur (97 miles). B,L. I Day 6 Sun Today you begin your ascent of the Cameron Highlands (5,000-6,000 feet above sea level). On the way up, stop to see Malaysian aboriginals, visit their village homes and the Iskandah Falls as well as passing fruit and vegetable farms. Drive on up through beautiful mountain scenery. Overnight at Cameron Highlands, where accommodation is simple but the setting divine. The climate can be much cooler here so a sweater is advisable. B,L.
I Day 7 Mon Enjoy the cool morning air then continue to Ipoh, the historic home of tin mining. En route you will visit Kellies Castle and visit Cave Temples in Ipoh before lunch at a local restaurant. Stop at the magnificent Ubudiah Mosque and the Palace of the Sultan of Perak. Proceed to Penang for two nights. (approx. 194 miles). B,L. I Day 8 Tue Today a visit is included to the Snake Temple, old Georgetown, Fort Cornwallis and the statue of the Reclining Buddha. Rest of the day to relax. B,L. I Day 9 Wed to Day 10 Thu Depart south by road passing rice fields and stop at Taiping to visit the Lake Gardens. Take the ferry (approx. 30 minutes) to the tropical shores of Pangkor Island for the next two nights. Enjoy time to relax on the beach, take advantage of the watersports on offer or explore the tropical interior of this offshore island (approx. 168 miles). B,L. I Day 11 Fri Depart Pangkor by ferry to the mainland and travel south to the small town of Port Dickson. This small town on the shores of the straits of Malacca provides a bolthole for many Malaysians looking to escape to the beach for the weekend (approx. 230 miles). B,L.
