I Day1 Sun Fly from Heathrow on SriLankan Airways to Trivandrum via Colombo arriving Monday. On arrival transfer to the superior medium class Uday Samudra (DLX), first class Estuary Island (GDN) or deluxe Kempinski Leela Kovalam (SUP) for seven nights or more. First class Marari Beach (GNV) flights are to Cochin with Jet Airways via Mumbai. See p71-73. I Day 9 Mon After breakfast enjoy a scenic drive from your beach hotel through the lush tropical landscape of Kerala to Kavanatingara where a boat on Lake Vembanad takes you to your hotel in Kumarakom. Enjoy leisure time in your peaceful hotel surrounds or take an optional bird watching tour with a local enthusiast. Overnight at the Backwater Ripples (Coconut Lagoon for those staying at Kempinski Leela Kovalam) for two nights. B. I Day 10 Tue A day to relax by the pool or perhaps try yoga, meditation or one of the rejuvenating and famous Ayurvedic massages for which the area is famous.
There are also a number of optional recreational activities on Lake Vembanad available. In the evening enjoy a sunset cruise on the backwaters in Kumarakom on a traditional rice barge. B. I Day 11 Wed Time for a swim after breakfast before boarding your private Keralan thatch roofed houseboat, complete with airconditioning, one or two bedrooms, en-suite basin and wc, a separate kitchen and sit-out area. A three strong crew cater for all your meals and peacefully glide until dusk along the labyrinthine network of lakes and canals that dissect the lush paddy fields, coconut groves and the occasional rustic dwellings that constitute the centuries old way of life on the Keralan backwaters. I Day 12 Thu Sail slowly to Alleppey then transfer by road back to your chosen hotel for four nights or more or select an alternative hotel from our Keralan collection on p71-73.
