Delhi: 1 night Alsisar: 1 night Jaipur: 2 nights Lal Mahal: 1 night Agra: 2 nights Delhi: 1 night I Day 1 Thu Depart Heathrow on Virgin Atlantic to Delhi. I Day 2 Fri Arrive late morning in Delhi and transfer to the central InterContinental The Grand for one night. The rest of the day is at leisure. Optional evening visit to the Dances of India show. I Day 3 Sat After breakfast a fascinating orientation of bustling Delhi begins at its `heart', Connaught Place, before moving onward to the chaotic yet mesmerising Old Delhi. Continue by coach to the imperial architectural masterpiece of Lutyen's New Delhi. Wander Ghandi's memorial `Rajgat' before driving along the Rajpath to the monumental India Gate where you can also view the President's Palace and the government buildings. Drive in the afternoon to the village of Alsisar for one night at the Alsisar Mahal. Enjoy a traditional evening performance of local song and dance, with an optional dinner available (169 miles). B. I Day 4 Sun Explore the Shekawati regions' magnificent havelis (mansions). Built by rich merchants they display a unique architectural style that evolved around the courtyards to ensure the safety and privacy of the women. The havelis, painted predominantly in hues of blue, maroon, yellow, green and indigo are characterised by their distinctively beautiful wall paintings. Later drive for lunch at the luxurious Samode Palace before continuing on to the fabled `Pink City' of Jaipur for two nights at The Trident, Jaipur (138 miles). B,L. I Day 5 Mon Leave Jaipur and visit the ancient imposing Amber Fort. Constructed by Raj Man Singh in 1592, the austere exterior of the fort gives way to a beautiful fusion of Hindu and Mughal influences. Return to Jaipur and the Royal Observatory, Maharajah's Palace and the unique Hawa Mahal (Palace of the Winds). Take a rickshaw ride through the bustling streets between the City Palace and Albert Hall. Later enjoy time to wander the many bazaars or take an optional tour to the central SOS Children's Village to observe the charity work undertaken there. B. I Day 6 Tue Depart Jaipur mid-morning for Lal Mahal, the former hunting lodge of the Maharajah of Jaipur and in the afternoon enjoy a short engaging guided tour of the local village. Optional evening camel safari before overnighting in the deluxe tented lodge (12 miles). B. I Day 7 Wed After an early breakfast leave for Agra, stopping en route to see the perfectly preserved deserted Mughal city of Fatehpur Sikri. Stay at The Trident, Agra for two nights and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure (163 miles). B. I Day 8 Thu The highlight of any tour, this morning visit the Taj Mahal. 20,000 craftsmen laboured 20 years to build this fabulous memorial for Shah Jahan to honour his wife, Mumtaz. The afternoon is at leisure with an optional tour to the Itimad-ul-Daulah (Baby Taj) available. We highly recommend the optional tour to the Taj Mahal at sunset to witness its translucent stone gradually change colour as the light fades. Enjoy an evening Farewell Dinner. B,D. I Day 9 Fri Drive back to Delhi for one last night in the capital at the Radisson. Optional evening visit to a cookery demonstration with dinner or Sound and Light show at the Red Fort (163 miles).
