Climbing this mountain is an inspirational and exciting addition to any holiday and visiting the adorable apes in their protected environment at Sepilok Orang Utan rehabilitation centre or elegant turtles at the Turtle Island Conservation Area are definite highlights. Our wildlife adventure offers the opportunity to view orang utans and turtles in their natural environment. DAY 1 ² Depart early for your 40 minute flight from Kota Kinabalu to Sandakan with Malaysian Airlines. On arrival transfer to the jetty, for a 75 minute speedboat to Selingan Island (75 minutes). Part of the Turtle Island Conservation Area, this picturesque island is set in the Sulu Sea and offers a safe haven for the green and hawksbill turtles. Relax, swim and snorkel and you may see the native turtles as they come ashore at night to lay their eggs or when hatchlings are released back into the wild (although sightings are not guaranteed, it is rare for visitors to leave disappointed). Overnight is in the islands simple lodge style accommodation with shared facilities. DAY 2 ² Return to Sandakan and continue to the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre, where you can observe these fascinating creatures. Proceed to Sukau, and take a river cruise amid the jungle watching out for the long nosed proboscis monkey and a great variety of birdlife. Stay overnight in simple chalets with private facilities. DAY 3 ² Return to Sandakan before your flight with Malaysian Airlines back to Kota Kinabalu. Marvel at the apes as they roam through their jungle learning survival techniques before they are released into the wild. DAY 1 ² Depart early in the morning An energetic and inspirational climb, offering spectacular views over verdant Borneo. DAY 1 ² Depart early this morning from your Kota Kinabalu hotel, driving up the Croker Range. Stop at a native market en route to the National Park. Lunch and dinner are provided. Overnight at either Kinabalu Pine Resort or Pakasa Mount Kinabalu (dependent on availability). DAY 2 ² After breakfast transfer to 1 for your 40 minute Malaysia Airlines flight from Kota Kinabalu to Sandakan, in the east of Borneo. A 20 minute drive from Sandakan lies the world famous Orang Utan rehabilitation centre of Sepilok. A raised wooden walkway takes you to the observation deck where you may get a close sighting from this viewing platform particularly at feeding time (bananas and milk)  10am. The rehabilitation centre offers orphaned or captive orang utans the opportunity to learn survival skills before being released into the wild. Your guide will escort you to a local restaurant in Sandakan for lunch before a short guided tour of the town and its thriving port. This afternoon fly back to Kota Kinabalu and transfer to your choice of hotel on the beach in Borneo. Cost per person in twin: £132 the starting point and trek for five to six hours today with lunch en route and dinner to nourish you at the end and stay overnight at a simple Mountain Hut (Laban Rata Rest House or Gunting Lagadan Rest House). No mountaineering skills are required but a reasonable level of physical fitness is of course needed. DAY 3 ² Rise very early to complete the 2½ hour to 3½ hour trek to the summit before descending to the hut for breakfast and then on down to the foothills for lunch before the transfer back to Kota Kinabalu and your hotel. ACCOMMODATION º Is simple on both overnight tours but the experience is worth it. TRAVEL TIPS º For the Mount Kinabalu Climb we suggest packing a change of clothes packed in a waterproof bag, warm sweater, sturdy walking shoes, raincoat, gloves, sunblock and torch. NB º Those above 55 years of age will be required to sign an Indemnity Form before departure of the Mount Kinabalu Climb. You are advised not to wear bright clothing when visiting the Orang Utans Rehabilitation Centre. The Sepilok Orang Utan Adventure may not be suitable for those with walking difficulties.
