Driving in France in winter is normally problem-free and roads should be clear of snow until you reach resort. French road signs generally indicate towns rather than road numbers, making it easier to plan your route by looking at the towns you'll be passing through. Tolls are payable on French motorways (by either cash or credit card). Motorway tolls from Calais to resorts in the Alps will be in the region of e50-e70 and a little more if travelling to the Pyrenees. Visit www.viamichelin.co.uk for an excellent route planner giving mileage and approximate journey times, as well as toll costs for your journey. As a handy guide, we have listed approximate mileage from Calais to each of our resorts.
