ve lle rs ' Tra tales
First-hand knowledge is the best way to fully understand anything, so what better way to find out about a Battlefields tour before you travel than to hear from those who've `been there' and `done that'.
Our Travellers' Tales provide honest accounts of our guests' experiences and give you the chance to find out a bit more from people who've already travelled. Over the next few pages you'll find stories from some of our guests, read about their Battlefields experience and learn for yourself what makes their trip special and hopefully, you'll be tempted by some of the tours they've been on. Look out for the logo on the holiday pages. We always enjoy hearing from our guests, so be sure to send us a letter or even a postcard!

Painting the picture in Italy
Accompanied by his friend David Burton, Smith Benson flew to Italy for an eight-day Italian Campaign Battlefields tour, his first with Leger.
We chose this tour because of the interesting places it was going to: Salerno, Caserta, Monte Cassino, Hill 593, Snake Head Ridge, The Liri Valley, Anzio, Sangro and Ortona. The itinerary was excellent and a lot was put into the time available. make the amount of walking for the veterans of the campaign as easy as possible. Nothing was too much trouble for him.
Great People
The group of people were excellent, we all mixed together. The veterans on the tour, the stories they told of what it was like at that time was quite something. What you have to bear in mind is that they were only lads. The coach was clean and comfortable and, as we said before, the driver was a star (he was called Massimo I hope I have spelt his name right!), and the hotel we stayed in was excellent. We didn't have any complaints. Our opinion of the tour was excellent and great value for money. The tour was even more than we expected as this was our first with Leger. Full marks. For anybody who wants to know about the Italian Campaign, this is the one. Smith Benson, Lancashire. Turn to page 29 for full details of the Italian Campaign by Air tour.
What Made the Trip?
The highlight of the tour was the guide, Paul Reed. Paul is very knowledgeable in his subject and at every place we stopped a full and detailed explanation went into his presentation. Photos of all the places we visited were passed around, nobody was left out. He was a star, no doubt about that. Our driver was excellent too. On the day we had to use a smaller coach he took the coach as near as he could to where we had to go so as to

Tours of Remembrance
by The Royal British Legion
The Royal British Legion pioneered Journeys of Remembrance more than 80 years ago. For 2012 Leger Holidays in association with the Royal British Legion is pleased to offer a selection of Journeys of Remembrance Pilgrimage Tours. In addition to the usual Battlefield visits and explorations, these tours afford time for personal cemetery visits, and are escorted by the Royal British Legion Support Group including a Standard Bearer who will provide assistance at cemeteries and Acts of Remembrance.
