Colourful orchards, sandy beaches and vibrant towns provide a stunning backdrop to our journey around Cuba, but it is the rare opportunity to learn about and enjoy this intriguing country that attracts people to this tour. The striking friendliness of the people of Cuba helps us to see rst-hand how fair trade works in a unique political setting and impacts on the lives of ordinary people. We visit citrus farmers in Ciego de Avila and see how fair trade premiums benet the local cooperatives. With 2009 the anniversary of the revolution, there is no better time to visit.

CPA and CCS Jose Marti
On this tour we visit CPA and CCS Jose Marti, two of the seven co-ops which produce oranges for Fruit Passion juices which are sold in the UK. The extra premium from fair trade enables the co-operatives to buy equipment and pay for much needed repairs to enable farmers to increase production and improve farming practice. The Association of Small Farmers (ANAP) which represents the interests of the co-operatives and individual farmers in Cuba also works hard to increase the involvement of women in the farms and in the decision-making processes.
