Southern India Tea Tour A classic journey across Southern India that gives you an amazing insight into a new culture and way of life as we travel through a landscape of beautiful mountains and coastal areas. Starting in the city of Chennai we take a train into the Nilgiri Hills, an area famous for its tea. This unique tour includes visits to a variety of projects and producers, where we hear about the issues facing the tea industry that provides employment for a vast number of people. Our tour includes time in tribal areas and we have a relaxing introduction to Ayurverdic medicine and practices. We spend a night on Keralas coastal backwaters and then re return to Chennai fro from where we vi visit the famous s shore temple at M Mahabalipuram, a great end to a g great tour. O One of the current projects is with the Centre fo Education for and Communication on a project aimed at addressing the issues behind the crisis facing tea workers as tea prices fall and estates close. The project seeks to organise and empower smallholder growers to realise fairer terms of trade within the industry through domestic market assessment, business support, and advocacy aimed at improved legislation in the industry. Small-scale farmers in the area grow tea which is processed in their own modern factory. Model farmers share knowledge with their neighbours on how to produce quality tea without pesticides or chemicals.
