Setting off from Bangkok, this tour takes us through some of the north-eastern and northern areas seldom frequented by tourists. We meet the craftsmen and women of Traidcrafts long-term suppliers, who draw on a remarkable heritage of craft techniques and styles to produce ne weaving, embroidered fabrics, bamboo baskets and silverwork. Travelling through stunning countryside, we visit villages high in the mountains, ancient temples and sanctuaries as well as p p development p j projects in the capital.

Y Development
As well as selling locally, the YMCA in Chiang Mai, northern Thailand, has been exporting crafts to fair trade organisations since 1982. The Y works with more than 50 producer groups in northern Thailand. Many of the producers are women, who earn supplementary income through craftwork. It is also keen to promote environmental awareness and to encourage traditional skills, which are in danger of dying out.
