Starting in Istanbul you'll move down the Aegean coast to visit the moving cemeteries and battlefields of Gallipoli and the ancient ruins of Troy and Ephesus. Stay in an old Ottoman house by the coast and see the bizarrely beautiful calcified cliffs of Pamukkale. You'll get a real taste of Turkish hospitality on the way and end the tour by returning to energetic Istanbul, the country's largest city and gateway between east and west on the banks of the Bosphorus. Take a walking tour to the Spice Bazaar, Blue Mosque and historical landmarks such as Hagia Sophia and Topkapi Palace, with time to explore independently. Day 1 Arrive at your hotel in Istanbul. Evening welcome briefing. Optional group dinner at local restaurant. Day 2 Drive down to Gallipoli to tour the battlefields, cemeteries and historic sites like ANZAC Cove and Lone Pine. Overnight in Canakkale, a lively coastal town with excellent restaurants. Day 3 Move down the coast to see the remains of ancient Troy before continuing to the charming old town of Ayvalik, with its busy little harbour and cobbled streets. Optional boat charters. Stay at a family-run guesthouse in a wonderful old Ottoman house and dine at a local seafood restaurant. Day 4 After a morning by the Aegean in Ayvalik continue on to Selcuk. From here, you'll visit Ephesus, one of the world's best preserved and largest Roman cities. Its huge theatre and impressive library are among the many highlights, along with the remains of the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world. Day 5 Spend the morning in Selcuk, visiting the Ephesus Museum, walking to the hilltop castle or catching a local bus to the beach. Drive onwards to your hotel in Pamukkale in the afternoon. Day 6 Visit the extraordinary 'cotton castle' of Pamukkale, a series of calcified cliff top hot springs. After a tour of nearby ancient Hierapolis you'll continue to Istanbul on the overnight bus.
