The Canadian Rocky Mountains are one of the most beautiful places in the world, and what better time to experience this splendour than over Christmas. Combining the breathtaking grandeur of the Rockies, with the sophisticated charms of excellent Fairmont hotels, this holiday is sure to be one to remember.
ItInerary 23 December UK/edmonton Fly to Edmonton and then transfer to our hotel for an overnight stay. The capital of the Alberta province, historic Edmonton owes its existence to the fur trade, but its rise to prominence really began with the discovery of oil. Nowadays, its a thriving modern city, renowned for its hospitality, yet steeped in charm and tradition and home to an array of restaurants, shops and museums. chrIstmas eve Jasper Today we take the scenic drive from Edmonton to Jasper, where we stay for two nights at the world-famous Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge. We include a short orientation tour of Jasper this afternoon. A wealth of optional activities is available during your stay in Jasper, including sleigh rides, skating, and a walk through the famous Maligne Canyon. This is a wonderful opportunity to see the Rockies in all their snowy splendour. The canyon is one of the most spectacular in the Canadian Rockies, its sheer limestone walls plunging to depths of over 150 feet. We explore the mysteries of this magical canyon in the company of experienced local guides. This evening we enjoy a wonderful Christmas Eve dinner and festive drink. chrIstmas Day Jasper Sample the festive atmosphere today, as we enjoy carolling by the fire and a sumptuous Christmas lunch. boxIng Day Lake Louise We leave Jasper behind today and take a drive through breathtaking scenery to the incomparably beautiful Lake Louise, where we stay overnight at the spectacular Chateau Lake Louise. Set in a small glacial valley, the sapphire waters of the lake reflect the surrounding forests and mountains, creating one of the Rockies most magical vistas. 27 December banff This morning we head to Banff, at the centre of the Banff National Park. Gaze in awe at mighty snow-capped peaks, crystal clear lakes and sparkling streams, drive through rugged canyons with crashing waterfalls and marvel at a vast wilderness of huge pine forests where black and grizzly bears still roam free, although they will be hibernating at this time of year. We stay for two nights at the timeless Banff Springs Hotel. 28 December banff Today we enjoy a guided tour of Banff and the surrounding area, including Bow Falls, the Cave and Basin, and Sulphur Mountain, from where the vistas are incredible. Perhaps take an optional helicopter flight over the Rockies for spectacular views.
