21 December London/guimaraes Fly to Oporto and transfer to Guimaraes and your Pousada hotel. 22 December oporto Standing on the dramatic gorge of the River Douro, our tour begins at a port wine lodge for a delicious tasting and continues with a sightseeing tour of the city. 23 December guimaraes The first capital of Portugal, Guimaraes oozes history in its narrow, cobbled streets. We enjoy a guided tour this morning to get our bearings, and then the afternoon is free for you to relax. chrIstmas eve amarante & the mateus Palace estate Amarante, a delightful town on the banks of the River Tamega, is best known for its excellent Vinho Verde wine. The Mateus Estate, home to the Baroque 18th-century palace that appears on Mateus Roses label, also has exquisitely maintained gardens which we can explore. chrIstmas Day mountains of geres Journey by coach through the beautiful mountains of Peneda Geres, stopping at the Pousada da Canicada for the fantastic views. This evening a very special Christmas dinner is accompanied by traditional entertainment from a local folk group. boxIng Day Ponte de Lima and viana do castelo The delightful town of Ponte de Lima, set in a beautiful river valley, is best known for its Roman stone bridge. We make a stop here before continuing to the delightful old town of Viana do Castelo and its distinctive square enclosed by fine buildings. 27 December guimaraes/London Return to Oporto airport for the homeward flight. yoUr hoteL Pousada de santa marinha (4-star), 6 nights half board.
