Our scenic drive takes us first to Neum, then through the valley of the River Neretva. Mostar has been influenced by many cultures through the centuries, each of them leaving its trace. The city was an important centre of trade during the years under the Ottoman Empire, and evidence of the Turkish influence can still be seen in the old bazaar, the mosque and the typical Turkish houses. But Mostar is perhaps most famous for its bridge, which became a symbol of the conflict that swept the region towards the end of the last century. The original stone arch spanned the Neretva from the 16th century until its destruction in 1993. After hostilities ended, a major project to reconstruct the bridge began, culminating with the triumphant opening of the completed structure in 2004. Our return drive takes us to Pocitelj, a picturesque fortress-town rich in oriental architecture. 29 December cavtat A short distance along the coast from Dubrovnik lies Cavtat, and today you can take a half-day optional trip to explore this pretty resort. As well as offering delightful scenery, Cavtat is also the birthplace of one of Croatia's great artists, Vlaho Bukovac. We pay a visit to the artist's house, which has been lovingly preserved. The town boasts many other impressive sights, including the Rector's Palace, which is home to the Baltazar Bogisic Collection. The collection is owned by the Croatian Academy of Science and Art and comprises books, manuscripts, paintings, graphics, photographs, pottery and more. 30 December Dubrovnik/London We transfer to the airport for our return flight. yoUr hoteL hotel hilton Imperial (5-star), 7 nights half board.
