Salzburg represents one of the most beautiful cityscapes in Europe pastel-painted houses and richly decorated baroque churches line the picturesque streets and squares; pretty shop windows packed with festive fare glow beneath traditional guild signs in the streets of the Old Town; and on the city's doorstep is the glorious snow-frosted scenery of the Austrian Alps.
ItInErary 22 DECEMBEr UK/Salzburg Leave for Munich and transfer to Salzburg and your choice of 4 or 5-star hotel. 23 DECEMBEr Salzburg A guided walking tour explores this enchanting city encircled by mountains and dominated by the mighty Hohensalzburg Fortress. Along the way we'll see the magnificent palaces, fountains and splendid baroque buildings of the Old Town. You'll also have plenty of free time to explore at your own pace or visit the charming Christmas markets for some last-minute shopping. Our evening meal is taken in the dramatic fortress dating from 1077 that towers above Salzburg's old town. CHrIStMaS EVE Kitzbuhel One of Austria's most chic ski resorts, you will have plenty of time in Kitzbuhel to explore the old town, or take a ride in the Hahnenkamm cable car for spectacular views of the Austrian Alps. The perfect end to a perfect day is a delicious buffet dinner at your hotel, complete with live music. You'll also have the opportunity to attend Midnight Mass in one of the city's churches. CHrIStMaS Day Salzkammergut Awake to the peal of church bells ready for our trip to Salzkammergut, a snow-covered winter wonderland of towering mountain peaks, sparkling lakes and pretty villages. For many people one of the highlights of the day is the chance to see Mondsee and the 15th-century church that featured in The Sound of Music as well as the lakeside village of St Wolfgang, home to a legendary operetta based at the White Horse Inn. The day is brought to a fitting finale with a superb four-course festive dinner and live music in the mediaeval cellar of the truly excellent K&K restaurant. BOXInG Day Southern Bavaria It's only a short hop across the border to Southern Bavaria. This is your chance to visit the impressive town of Berchtesgaden, dominated by the castle and Konigssee, Germany's highest lake. In the evening we enjoy a Mozart concert and dinner at St Peter's Cellar in Salzburg, one of Europe's oldest restaurants, steeped in history and tradition. 27 DECEMBEr Innsbruck Today's optional trip to the Tyrolean capital will give you lots of time to stroll through the mediaeval streets, set against the backdrop of a beautiful river and awe-inspiring mountains. While you're here be sure to dine out in one of the many good restaurants that serve traditional dishes made with fresh local ingredients. 28 DECEMBEr Salzburg/UK Return to the airport for the homeward flight. yOUr HOtEL 6 nights (5 nights half board, 1 night bed and breakfast) the nH Salzburg Hotel (4-star) is close to the Mirabell Garden and ten minutes' walk from the historic centre. It has a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere with comfortable rooms, a bar, restaurant, sauna and solarium. Hotel Sheraton (5-star) Located close to the magnificent Mirabell Garden and about ten minutes walk from the Old Town, this delightful hotel offers guests friendly service in comfortable surroundings.
