bOXInG Day cordoba Once one of the largest cities in Europe and today one of the most fascinating, Cordoba is beautifully set on a bend of the River Guadalquivir and offers magnificent sightseeing opportunities. We have included a full-day excursion to the city, the highlight of which is a visit to the Great Mosque. Built in the 8th century, when Cordoba was the capital of the Moorish kingdom of Al Andalus, the dazzling interior includes over 850 columns of jasper, marble and granite. The mosque was considered so spectacular that it was left standing when the Christians reconquered the city in the 13th century, and a cathedral was built around the rows of arches. From here, enjoy a walk through the picturesque Jewish quarter; a labyrinth of winding narrow streets, shady courtyards and lovely squares.
