The ship will be moored here overnight allowing you plenty of time to explore the Greek capital. DAY 2 Athens From Piraeus, a variety of excursions will be available to Athens, the birthplace of Western European philosophy, art and culture. This evocative place is crammed with some of the finest architectural treasures in the world. Sightseeing options include the magnificent Acropolis, which dominates the skyline; the classical masterpiece of the Temple of Athena Nike; the Erectheum with its famous Porch of the Caryatids; and, of course, the Parthenon, designed as a shrine to Athena and once containing a massive gold and ivory statue of the warrior goddess. From this vantage point, we can also enjoy excellent views over the city. If you prefer, excursions are available to Cape Sounion to see the Temple of Poseidon and offering stunning views of the Aegean Sea; or to ancient Corinth, home to the Temple of Apollo. The Ocean Majesty sets sail from Piraeus at 1700. DAY 3 Kusadasi Whilst the resort of Kusadasi is great for shopping, with bargains galore in the friendly souks, few will want to miss our shore excursion to Ephesus, one of the best-preserved and most impressive Greco-Roman cities in the world. During the citys heyday it was a centre for wealth, art, culture and intellect, and some of this is reflected in the magnificently preserved ruins that we can see today. Amazing sights include the imposing Temple of Hadrian, the Library of Celsus, and the Great Theatre where St Paul once preached. DAY 4 Cruising Enjoy a leisurely day at sea. DAY 5 Sevastopol Situated on the tip of the Crimea and on the shores of a natural harbour, Sevastopol is a treasure-house of historic monuments. Founded in 1783, the city played a major role in the Crimean War. Nearby Balaklava has only recently opened to tourism, and it is here that we can see the moving site of the famous Charge of the Light Brigade. Other highlights on our excursions include Vladimirsky Cathedral, Pokrov Church, the Monument to the Scuttled Ships and a lively folk show. DAY 6 Yalta The Crimean Peninsula offers outstanding beauty a beauty that inspired the Tsars to choose this region for their summer resorts, one of which was Yalta. Today their grand mansions can still be seen, including the fine Livadia Palace, built for Tsar Nicholas II and site of the historic Yalta Conference attended by Sir Winston Churchill in 1945. Shore excursions will also include the famous Swallows Nest, a white palace with towers and spires resembling that of a fairytale castle and offering magnificent views of the Black Sea.
