We have the chance to visit the capital, Corfu Town, with its labyrinth of narrow winding streets filled with Italian-style architecture. DAY 7 Kefalonia The largest of the Ionian islands, Kefalonia is home to picturesque villages, Roman, Venetian & Byzantine ruins, beautiful beaches and is famous as the setting for Louis de Bernieres bestseller, Captain Corellis Mandolin. Shore excursions will give you a panoramic tour of the island and visit many of the places associated with the book. DAY 8 Zante Continuing south we reach Zante, an idyllic island of pine-covered hills, emerald waters and picturesque villages set between groves of olive and almond trees. Shore excursions will explore the island with its beautiful beaches and the Blue Caves. DAY 9 Katakolon This tranquil port on the western edge of the Peloponnese will welcome you to its delightful shops and cafes overlooking the lovely beach. You wont want to miss our shore excursion to Olympia. Amongst the wild olives and plane trees lie the ruins of important temples. See the Doric Temple of Zeus, where the Olympic flame was kept burning between games. Nearby is the Temple of Hera, and the Stadium, where we can still make out the 200-metre-long track and the athletes starting and finishing lines. DAY 10 Itea We spend the day in Itea, on mainland Greece. This is our gateway to Delphi, the most beautifully located of all ancient Greek sites. We see the Temple of Apollo; dating from the 4th century BC; the well-preserved Stadium, where games were held in honour of Apollo; and the Kastelian Spring, where pilgrims had to wash to purify themselves before seeking the wisdom of the Oracle. DAY 11 Corinth Canal Make sure youre on deck this morning as we sail through the spectacular Corinth Canal. Hewn out of solid rock, the sixkilometre-long canal took eleven years to build and is one of the most important stretches of water in the world, linking the Aegean and Ionian Seas. DAY 12 Nafplio A charming, timeless town, Nafplio was once the capital of Greece. Sights include the 18th century Venetian Palamidi Fortress; the Fortress Bourtzi, situated on a small island in the bay; and the Akronapflia, the oldest part of the city. Perhaps experience a taste of Ancient Greece with our shore excursions, visiting locations such as Mycenae and Epidaurus. DAY 13 Friday 24 October Piraeus We arrive in Piraeus this morning and transfer to the airport for our return flight.
