We will be moored here overnight allowing plenty of time to explore the dynamic capital of Catalonia. DAY 2 Barcelona This is a vibrant city of bustling boulevards, lush parks, fine historic monuments and, perhaps most famously of all, striking Modernista architecture. See the magnificent cathedral and mediaeval alleyways; climb the Montjuic Hill for stunning views over the city, and dont forget to take a stroll down Las Ramblas, where market stalls, tarot readers and street theatre vie for space in front of pavement cafes. Shore excursions feature the amazing architecture of Antoni Gaudi; and a city tour incorporating the Gothic Quarter and the Spanish Village. We set sail at 1630. DAY 3 Toulon The ancient French naval base of Toulon is our gateway to Provence. The narrow winding streets leading from the Vieux Port give the city a traditional charm and where better to enjoy a glass of wine than in a charming pavement cafe as you watch the sleek yachts at anchor in the sparkling waters of the bay. A shore excursion takes us to Aix en Provence, the birthplace of Cezanne. This stylish university city has a wealth of 17th and 18th century architecture, especially along the Cours Mirabeau, where weathered stone mansions are adorned with wrought iron balconies. Alternatively, join a trip to Cassis, a picturesque Mediterranean fishing village hemmed in by white cliffs and slopes of vineyards. A wine tasting is also included on the tour. DAY 4 Nice Founded by the Greeks in the 5th century BC, Nice is a delightful city located on the French Riviera. Explore the narrow alleys of the walled old town, stopping at the many shops and stalls selling local produce; or stroll along the palm-lined Promenade des Anglais. Perhaps join an excursion to the glamorous principality of Monaco or take a tour to the ancient city of St Paul de Vence, which has retained much of its mediaeval character. DAY 5 Genoa The birthplace of Christopher Columbus has been a prominent sea power since the 10th century and remains Italys most important port.
