Few journeys are as magical as a passage through the Panama Canal. Your voyage takes you to fabulous Caribbean islands and sunshine resorts in Central America. Youll discover cities rich in culture, explore places where Spanish colonists settled in their quest for gold, and enjoy unspoilt beaches. These cruises start in the cities of Los Angeles, Santiago, Miami and Seattle and finish in the great North American cities of Miami, Boston, Seattle and Vancouver. Each journey offers magical ports of call, like the lively holiday island of Key West, where you can see Ernest Hemingways home and the Little White House, where President Truman used to stay. Other ports of call include the Caribbean islands of Aruba, with Hooiberg, the huge volcanic formation that can be seen from almost anywhere on the island, and Curacao, whose lovely capital Willemstad, with its Dutch-colonial style buildings, has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can also visit Puerto Limon in Costa Rica, where centuries of history combine with a vibrant atmosphere, Cartagena in Colombia, where youll find the impressive Castillo de San Felipe, Santa Marta, also in Colombia, situated at the edge of the Sierra Nevada mountains, with its great beaches, and Manzanillo in Mexico, where you can relax on the beach or go snorkelling. George Town, the capital of the Cayman Islands, is ideal for a spot of duty-free shopping. From the charming Mexican city of Puerto Vallarta, beautifully set on the Bay of Banderas, you can go whale watching, ocean kayaking and more, while Acapulco boasts beaches, shops and dare-devil cliff divers watch as they plunge 130ft into the water below. Cabo San Lucas in Mexico offers views of a spectacular rugged coast and the chance to go snorkelling. Roatan, off the coast of Honduras, is a haven for scuba divers attracted to its unspoilt coral reefs. If visiting Lima in Peru, marvel at the Spanish colonial buildings that have earned the historic centre of the city UNESCO World Heritage Site status. You can also visit Santiago, the capital of Chile, with its variety of museums and parks, and the Estación Central train station, designed by Gustave Eiffel, whose most famous work is the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Also in Chile, you can stop at the ports of Coquimbo, built around a natural harbour, Iquique, with beaches ideal for swimming and watersports, and Arica, known as the City of the Eternal Spring. Ports of call in North America include Astoria, Oregon, the oldest American settlement west of the Rocky Mountains where you can climb the 164 steps of the Astoria Column built in 1926; Victoria, on the southern tip of Vancouver Island, where you can visit shops selling crafts and antiques; and San Francisco, home to the famous prison island of Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge spanning the bay.
