ITINERARY DAY 1 UK/Luogosanto We fly to Olbia and transfer to the Hotel Santrano, close to the charming village of Luogosanto, where we stay for seven nights. Located in the heart of Sardinia, Luogosanto sits on the top of a small hill known as Monti Juanni, and on a clear day you can see as far as the distant Corsican coastline. DAY 2 Costa Smeralda Today we include a half-day tour of the Costa Smeralda, a beautiful strip of coastline that was bought by the Aga Khan in the 1960s. We enjoy the views of the rugged rock formations and tiny inlets that line the coast before visiting the sophisticated village of Porto Cervo, a haven for the rich and famous with its opulent designer shops and discreet luxury hotels. DAY 3 Corsica The day is free for you to relax and explore this charming village further. Alternatively, why not join our optional excursion to the French island of Corsica to enjoy some time in the pretty port of Bonifacio. Set on the island's southernmost point, the old town lies within the walls of the citadel atop stunning white cliffs. Houses adorned with pointed arches and arcades line a maze of narrow shady streets. DAY 4 Alghero, Capo Caccia & Neptune's Grotto We have included an excursion focused on the town of Alghero and its surroundings, including a visit to the Bay of Porto Conte, the promontory of Capo Caccia, Lazzaretto Beach and also the nearby Nuraghe Palmavera' to take a look at one of these ancient structures, which are a feature of the Sardinian landscape and its history. You'll also pay a visit to Neptune's Grotto, a snaking passage that's home to spectacular stalactites and stalagmites. You will have free time to explore Alghero, a fishing town with a distinct Catalan air. The old town is a mass of wrought iron balconies, flamboyant churches and narrow cobbled streets. DAY 5 The Heart of Sardinia Today we head further inland to the heart of Sardinia to spend some time with the famous pastori shepherds, whose sheep are used to produce the island's famous peccorini cheese. We enjoy a rustic outdoor lunch including the island's traditional suckling pig and music-paper' bread in the company of the shepherds, who are such an integral part of Sardinian tradition and culture. DAY 6 La Maddalena Join our optional full-day excursion by coach and boat to La Maddalena, said to be one of the most beautiful archipelagos in the world and home to Sardinia's first National Park. The largest island, La Maddalena, is renowned for its beaches, ancient fortifications and rocky granite outcrops.
