ITINERARY DAY 1 UK/Granada Fly to Malaga and transfer to your hotel in Granada, your base for the next five nights. On this fascinating tour we visit a variety of cultural sites so that you can get to know the city in more detail. Amongst these are the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Ubeda and Baeza, two hidden gems. Your carefully designed itinerary has been created with the help of one of the best official guides in Granada to ensure that your holiday is a truly special experience. DAY 2 The Alhambra Palace & the Albaizyn Quarter Prepare to be astonished by one of the greatest monuments in Europe. The Alhambra was a palace, citadel, fortress and home of the Nasrid Sultans, who created their idea of paradise on earth. Discover the exquisite Generalife Gardens where you can find cooling shade amongst the ancient cypress trees as you listen to the tranquil sound of the numerous fountains. This afternoon explore the maze of alleyways that make up the Albaizyn, Granada's atmospheric old Moorish quarter; see the royal chapel, where the monarchs Isabel and Fernando lie buried; and visit the Monastery of La Cartuja, built after the reconquest in unique Mudejar style. This evening take a short guided walk through the Sacramonte quarter to admire the stunning scene of the Alhambra illuminated against the night sky, followed by an authentic flamenco show in the Sacromonte Caves ­ the perfect way to end a wonderful day. DAY 3 Guadix & the Troglodyte Quarter Your day begins in the 16th-century cathedral town of Guadix, home to an intriguing secret underground community of troglodytes. Uncover their history at the cave museums of Alfareria and Costumbres. Back in Granada this evening, take a short optional tour of the lower Albaizyn Moorish quarter, where delicious local specialities are available in the excellent tapas bars. Why not sample the local gastronomy at the traditional Spanish restaurant Taberna Salinas? DAY 4 Ubeda & Baeza A fascinating day is in store as we take a full-day included excursion to Ubeda and Baeza, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites boasting magnificent Renaissance architecture. Dinner is included at the Paco Martin restaurant this evening. DAY 5 Salobrena & Nerja Discover more of Granada today or join your Tour Guide for an optional excursion to see some of the magnificent coastline of Andalucia. First stop is Salobrena, where sugar canes and trees sprawl towards the shoreline and beautiful beach. Traditional whitewashed houses and colourful bougainvillea make a picturesque scene. We continue to the delightful old town of Nerja with its sandy beaches and hidden coves. DAY 6 Granada/UK Transfer to Malaga airport for the return flight.
